Personality:
Suitability: In a world where everyone is fighting fuckoff huge monsters with heavy artillery, Hoshina is a man with a set of blades and an insane level of skill in close-quarters combat. Most people write him off because of this, but he’s an expert at dispatching small to mid-sized kaiju threats. In person. In melee range. He’s fast, agile, and deadly. And really, what are zombies if not people-sized kaiju?
Hoshina’s skills have landed him a position of authority within the JAKDF as a Vice Captain, so not only is he a seasoned combat veteran, he’s used to giving orders, managing troops, working within a group, and getting shit done. He’s extremely sharp as well, being keenly observant and quite intelligent. Basically, he’s an asset in just about every way.

Personality:
➕ LOYAL: Despite his carefree demeanor, Hoshina holds a deep, deep loyalty to the Defense Force, and most of all, Captain Ashiro. He’ll put his life on the line without question for his people, and do what needs to be done.
➕ INTELLIGENT: He’s very observant and a little bit of a schemer, cottoning onto the fact that something is off about Kafka (the series main character) after only a couple of meetings.
➕ SUPPORTIVE: Hoshina only got where he is because one person decided to have faith in his skills, and though he doesn’t appear it at first, he’s willing to stick his neck out for people and give them an honest chance even if it seems silly to do so.
➖ IRREVERENT: Boy, this man does not appear to take anything seriously ever, often cracking jokes and bursting out laughing when it’s not exactly appropriate to do so.
➖ ... EXCEPT REGARDING HIMSELF: Despite the above, Hoshina takes himself and his abilities with a blade way too seriously, thinking he always has something to prove on the battlefield. When he lets go and just lets himself have fun, he’s way more effective.
➖ USELESS AT RANGE: Do not hand him a gun it will not go well. This is such a massive weakness in the fight against kaiju, and he’s been told as much his whole life.
